History
In the year 2000, the Census of Marine Life (CoML), a global network of scientists, from over 80 nations, engaged in a 10 year initiative to assess and understand the diversity, distribution, and abundance of marine life in the world's oceans. This unprecedented global census, composed of more than 17 projects targeted a range of ocean ecosystems, from deep ocean vents to near-shore seagrass beds. The Census of Coral Reef Ecosystems (CReefs) is the "coral reef" component of this global endeavor.
